How It Works

Dental Assistance for Seniors Program

Your claim can be paid in two ways

Dental provider provides direct billing:

The program will pay the dental provider for the amount that is covered by the program. If there is a difference between the amount covered by the program and your bill, you will need to pay the difference.

Dental provider does not provide direct billing:

You pay the full bill. A claim form can be submitted (available from your dental provider) to ADSC. We accept faxed claims 1-780-426-7581, e-mailed claims claims@adsc.org, or mail to 200, 17010 – 103 Avenue, Edmonton, AB, T5S 1K7.

Low Income Health Benefit Program

Your claim will be paid directly to your dental provider

Dental provider provides direct billing:

The program will pay the dental provider based on the fee schedule.  The client will not have to pay the balance if the provider’s fees are higher than the applicable fee schedule.

Your Alberta Personal Health Number or Health Benefit ID card is required when your dental provider submits a claim. To find out how much of our dental services will be covered, have your dental provider submit a pre-authorization to ADSC, or call us at 780-426-7526, option 1, or toll free 1-800-232-1997.

Amount of Benefit - DASP

The Dental Assistance for Seniors program provides basic dental coverage to a maximum of $5,000 every five years from the date of your first paid dental procedure.

The amount of coverage you receive is based on your previous year’s annual income. You will receive annual correspondence directly from the Government of Alberta about your coverage amounts.

If your dental provider charges more than the specified fee, you must pay the additional amount. Any amount not covered by the Program is your responsibility.

Avoid an unexpected bill with a few simple steps. Before proceeding with your dental work, ask your dental provider about the cost of the procedure. Then, find out what’s covered by the Dental Assistance for Seniors Program and what you are required to pay.

Based on your income, the amount covered is a certain percentage of the Dental Assistance for Seniors Program fee schedule (Click here for the fee schedule). Even if you have 100% coverage, your dental provider might charge more than the fee listed in the fee schedule or be performing a dental procedure that is not covered by the program. These fees are your responsibility.

Claims must be submitted to Alberta Dental Service Corporation for payment first.

This process is being put in place so vouchers are received and processed in a timelier manner, benefiting both dental providers and clients. The new voucher can be emailed directly to ADSC, along with a completed claim form, at claims@adsc.org. Your office can still choose to mail or fax the completed voucher and claim form to ADSC if required.

All dental services and procedures supported by either the Dental Assistance for Seniors Program or the Low Income Programs must be completed by a dental provider located within Alberta. Any dental services and procedures completed outside of the province or outside of the country will not be reimbursed.
